Update of the Commission’s ‘Practice Guide for the application of the Brussels IIa Regulation’ assigned to Milieu

DG Justice recently tasked Milieu with an update of the Practice Guide for the Brussels IIa Regulation. The Regulation sets out rules on the jurisdiction, recognition and enforcement of decisions in matrimonial matters and matters of parental responsibility, as well as on intra-EU child abduction. The Practice Guide provides guidance to practitioners, such as lawyers and judges working in the area. Since the Regulation was subject to a recast in 2019, the Practice Guide needs to be updated to consider the changes made and the newest jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice (CJEU) and the  European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

Milieu will consult the users of the current Practice Guide to receive their input on how the Practice Guide best serves its purpose and carries out the update in cooperation with an expert in the field. The project will end in June 2022.
