European Commission publishes study on product safety in the circular economy

We are pleased to announce that the European Commission has published the study “Transposition of the General Product Safety Regulation: Product Safety in the Circular Economy”.

As circular business models, including reuse, repair, refurbishment and recycling, continue to grow across Europe, ensuring that products remain safe throughout their lifecycle is essential for both consumer protection and a well-functioning circular economy.

Milieu Consulting provided its legal analysis expertise by assessing the relevant legal framework at EU level and across 10 Member States: Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden and Slovakia.

We also co-facilitated a stakeholder workshop and co-drafted the final report under the lead of Verian, together with Ramboll Germany.

The study highlights the importance of adapting product safety frameworks to evolving circular economy practices, helping ensure that sustainability and consumer safety go hand in hand.
