Since June 2021, Milieu has been involved in a project led by LSE for the European Commission (DG Trade) that aims to provide a critical review of different approaches to trade and sustainable development (TSD) provisions in selected third-country free trade agreements. This analysis will help to inform the current review of the EU’s TSD approaches by the European Commission.

Milieu is in charge of two key project tasks: a review of TSD provisions in EU trade agreements and related-practices, as well as the organisation of an open public consultation on the EU’s TSD approaches and the analysis of the responses received. Milieu is also contributing to the review of environmental provisions in third-country free trade agreements, and will carry out one of the project’s case studies (on the Canada-Colombia free trade agreement).
