New edition of the Handbook on European law relating to asylum, borders and immigration published

Milieu has contributed to the preparation of the Handbook on European law relating to asylum, borders and immigration (2026 edition), now published by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights.

The updated edition reflects major legal developments since 2020, including the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, recent legislative reforms, and evolving case-law from Europe’s highest courts. It is designed as a reference tool for legal practitioners, judges, public authorities, national human rights institutions and civil society organisations working in the field of asylum, migration and borders.

By bringing together EU law, European Convention on Human Rights standards and key jurisprudence in a single accessible resource, the Handbook supports the consistent application of legal standards and the protection of fundamental rights across Europe. It addresses core areas such as access to asylum procedures, reception conditions, return, detention, family life and procedural safeguards.

Milieu contributed to the legal research and drafting underpinning the Handbook, drawing on its expertise in EU and international law and its experience supporting fundamental rights institutions.

The Handbook is intended to help practitioners navigate an increasingly complex legal framework and to promote consistent, rights-based approaches to asylum, migration and border management across Europe.
