Rachel Dempsey is a British/Belgian national. She is an experienced editor/proofreader and people manager. With 25 years of diverse professional experience, Rachel has gained an in-depth understanding of people management and commercial discipline.
After graduating from university, Rachel started her career working for an international bank. She spent two years responding to customers’ written complaints where she was quickly recognised as the senior in the team due to her expertise in the written language. She then moved on to work as a business analyst for nine years, firstly in the bank and then at an international telecommunications company. After working in telecommunications for a year she was promoted to the manager of the billing department where she oversaw the billing of all customers across Europe.
After moving to Belgium, Rachel qualified as a teacher of English as a second language. She then set up her own business teaching English to many students of all ages and all abilities. During these four years of teaching, Rachel proofread many documents for her students (dissertations, essays, CVs, application letters…). She continues to help some of her ex-students at exam time.
Rachel joined Milieu in 2014. She is now our Director of Human Resources and also coordinates and is responsible for all our proofreading and editing. As Human Resources Director she is responsible for, among other things, recruitment, people development and training. As a proofreader/editor, she has gained extensive experience in proofreading documents for the EU across a range of topics. She also enjoys sharing her expertise in the English language with her colleagues and helps to train people on effective writing and the language itself.
