Andrea Pazos is a Peruvian national who joined Milieu in March 2024 as a Marine/Water Policy Trainee. She holds an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology from Cientifica del Sur University (Peru) and a Master’s Degree in Marine Science and Management from an interuniversity program in Belgium (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Universiteit Gent, and Universiteit Antwerpen). During her studies, Andrea carried out research focusing on the effectiveness of two Peruvian Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) from the perspective of stakeholders. This study involved assessing the ecological, social, and governance aspects of these MPAs, considering the viewpoints of key stakeholders such as fishermen, scientists, and decision-makers. She also did a 2-month traineeship at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (Barcelona) where she contributed to the biological assessment of commercially important species from the Catalonian artisanal fleet.

Prior to her time in Belgium, Andrea worked at a marine conservation NGO in Peru. She participated in various projects, including assessing the interaction of top predators (such as sharks, dolphins, and turtles) with small-scale artisanal fisheries, managing conservation projects, engaging with local stakeholders, conducting workshops on marine conservation topics, and developing scientific communication campaigns for fishers.

At Milieu, Andrea supports environmental policy projects, primarily focusing on the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
