We have been selected by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) to lead a new EU study on the use of traditional herbal products to treat animals. Commissioned by the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE), this initiative aligns with efforts to strengthen veterinary innovation and support sustainable farming practices across the EU.
The study will contribute to the evidence base for a potential simplified EU registration procedure for herbal veterinary medicinal products, as envisaged under Regulation (EU) 2019/6 on veterinary medicinal products. Key tasks will include:
-
Mapping the availability and use of herbal veterinary medicines across Member States
-
Analysing national authorisation systems for such products
-
Consulting stakeholders on their experiences and perspectives regarding regulatory simplification
This study responds to growing interest in natural alternatives within veterinary care and aims to promote responsible innovation in animal health.
