Following its recent report on high-risk AI systems, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) is launching in-depth research on the use of AI-supported systems in asylum and migration management across EU Member States, including those at an advanced stage of testing, piloting or deployment.
The research will provide a balanced assessment of how AI-driven technologies are applied in practice in asylum and immigration procedures in Hungary. It will examine both the fundamental rights risks associated with such systems and the measures put in place to mitigate them. The project aims to support Member States in implementing the safeguards embedded in the EU AI Act, alongside the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the EU data protection acquis, particularly for systems qualifying as high-risk AI.
By strengthening the evidence base on real-world deployments, the project will enable FRA to provide targeted fundamental rights expertise and practical advice to Member States as they explore, test and deploy AI-supported decision-making tools in asylum and immigration contexts.
