Milieu, in partnership with Fresh Thoughts and Ecologic, will support the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV) in the preparation of the UN Water Conference, to be held in December 2026 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Global water governance is critical to ensuring the equitable, sustainable and secure management of shared water resources, which are increasingly under threat from climate change, pollution and rising demand. International water cooperation has long been a central aspect of EU external and environmental policies, and the UN Water Conference represents a key milestone for advancing multilateral action on water security.
Together with its partners, Milieu will provide analytical, technical and policy support to DG ENV throughout the preparatory process. The project will also deliver follow-up support to the Commission, in particular regarding the implementation of the EU Water Resilience Strategy.
The work will draw on a combination of policy analysis, technical expertise and stakeholder engagement to inform the EU’s positioning and contributions in the lead-up to the Conference and during its follow-up phase.
This support will help strengthen the EU’s contribution to global water governance and underpin evidence-based engagement with international partners on one of the defining environmental challenges of our time.
