Milieu seeks to speak with posted non-EU workers for ongoing research project

Milieu is conducting an ongoing research project on access to support and remedies for posted non-EU workers, and is inviting workers and supporting organisations to take part in short, confidential interviews. The research team is particularly interested in hearing from workers who have been posted to an EU Member State from a non-EU country.

The project focuses on the practical experiences of posted non-EU workers who, while posted abroad, have encountered difficulties such as problems with salary, working time, contracts, social security, accommodation or other working conditions; difficulties contacting their employer about these issues; or challenges in obtaining help or making a complaint to authorities, trade unions or other organisations.

Posting of workers from non-EU countries to the EU raises specific questions regarding the application of labour standards, the enforcement of workers’ rights, and the accessibility of complaint and remedy mechanisms. Understanding the practical barriers these workers face is essential to ensuring that EU labour mobility frameworks function effectively and uphold fundamental rights.

Interviews are short and focus on the worker’s experience in resolving issues and accessing remedies. They are conducted in the format and language most comfortable for the participant, preferably in person where feasible, with interpretation available if needed. All interviews are treated confidentially and participants will remain anonymous.

The findings will support a better understanding of the practical barriers faced by posted non-EU workers and contribute to evidence-based policy on labour mobility and access to justice in the EU.

Posted non-EU workers, or organisations working with them and able to facilitate contact, are invited to get in touch with the Milieu research team at posted@milieu.be.
