Charlotte Bürgers, a German national, joined Milieu in April 2026 as a Policy Analyst. She holds an MSc in Environmental Sciences from Wageningen University & Research, with a focus on water management and climate adaptation, and a BSc in Geosciences specialising in marine systems and geochemistry. Prior to joining Milieu, Ms Bürgers worked in the European Commission in DG Environment on the water acquis, coordinating the early implementation of the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and preparation of secondary legislation. She assumed this position through her preceding Bluebook Traineeship in the same DG, supporting the implementation of the Water Framework Directive, Floods Directive, and the drafting of the EU Water Resilience Strategy. Ms Bürgers also brings valuable experience working on Marine Protected Areas in the Baltic Sea with Friends of the Earth Germany, working in partnership with Coalition Clean Baltic using geospatial analysis to produce policy recommendations. Ms Bürgers is a native speaker of German, fluent in English and Spanish, and has a working knowledge of French.
