New Study: Contractual Practices Affecting Copyright and Related Rights

We’re proud to share the newly published Study on contractual practices affecting the transfer of copyright and related rights – a timely and in-depth analysis into how contractual practices such as buy-out contracts in creative sectors (audiovisual, music, visual arts, videogames and literary works) affect the remuneration of authors and performers, as well as the ability of producers to invest in creative content. This study follows up on the findings of the 2023 Media Industry Outlook.

Commissioned by the European Commission and led by Verian with NTT Data and SMIT-VUB, Milieu contributed analysis on the legal frameworks governing buy-outs, choice of law and jurisdiction across international, EU and national levels. Our findings support the Commission’s role for a fairer copyright landscape – one that empowers creators in the digital age.
