Milieu started to work on yet another compliance assessment. This time we are assisting the European Commission with the verification of the transposition of the Directive (EU) 2019/713 on combating fraud and counterfeiting of non-cash means of payment. The Directive not only sets definitions of the relevant offences and minimum levels of penalties and clarifies the scope of jurisdiction to ensure cross border frauds are better dealt with. It also sets requirements on prevention and awareness-raising to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of fraud.

This study covers 22 Member States, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czechia, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovenia and Slovakia. The results of this assessment will enable the Commission to decide on ongoing infringement procedures and on potential further legal actions.
