Richard Walsh joined Milieu in January 2022 after 13 years in the private and academic sector. He is from Ireland where he studied for his BSc. in Applied Biology and Quality Management and obtained his PhD in Environmental Biotechnology researching novel biomatrices for removal of heavy metals from industrial wastewater streams.
Richard is an experienced project manager who has overseen nationally and EU funded projects in the areas of freshwater aquaculture, marine resource utilisation and macroalgae. He also has an excellent understanding of a consultancy’s clients requirements and the importance of achieving project objectives after co-founding and operating his own consultancy in the macroalgae sector for 9 years. As Senior policy analyst at Milieu his responsibilities include projecting managing the service contract for implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and providing support to project proposals in the areas of marine and environment.
His areas of interest and expertise include environmental technology and innovation, wastewater, water reuse, macroalgae utilisation and biomonitoring.
