Melanie Muro joined Milieu as a policy advisor in September 2016. She is an Environmental Planner, having completed her Master’s degree at the Technical University Berlin. She has ten years of research experience focused on the design, implementation and evaluation of innovative natural resource management policies, implementation approaches, methods and tools. Her areas of expertise include integrated and collaborative water resources planning and management, particularly the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive, the dynamics and benefits of partnership working and learning processes, water efficiency, water consumer behaviours and attitudes.
Melanie holds a PhD in Water Management which she obtained from Cranfield University in the UK, where, from 2005 until 2011, she first worked as a doctoral researcher and later as a research fellow. Prior to her engagement with the Cranfield Water Science Institute, she held a position as a research officer with the Institute of Landscape and Environmental Planning at the Technical University Berlin. She has contributed to projects on: mitigation of water stress (AquaStress, FP6), flood resilience in urban areas (CORFU, FP7), improving policy-science interactions for climate change adaptation (PSIconnect, FP7), water efficiency standards (DG ENV), consumer attitudes towards water recycling (Cambridge Water), public participation under the Water Framework Directive (German Environment Agency), and international river basin organisations (German Ministry for Economic Co-operation).
