Manuel Sala Pérez is a marine researcher who joined Milieu in January 2022 as a Policy advisor. Manuel holds a BSc in Biology from the University of Alicante, an MSc in marine biodiversity and conservation from the University of Ghent and a PhD on the human impact on marine biodiversity from the University of Bristol. He has worked for three years as a researcher at the University of Bristol for a Horizon 2020 project focused on marine biodiversity. Thereafter, Manuel has worked for over three years at the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM) as a project researcher where he managed EU-funded projects on the Interreg Baltic Sea Programme. He has more than six years of experience in environmental data analysis and data management.

Manuel main areas of expertise included marine biodiversity, environmental impact, and maritime activities, in particular, he has acquired broad knowledge in MSFD, WFD, IAS regulation as well as international maritime legislation such as IMO BWMC. Manuel’s interests include marine conservation and restoration, sustainable use of marine resources, blue and circular economy, marine monitoring, renewables energies, and data management, analysis, and visualization.
