Comparative study on civil status
Client: European Parliament
This was a comparative study reviewing nine Member States (Bulgaria, Italy, France , Germany , Latvia , Netherlands , Scotland , Slovenia , Sweden ), chosen as a sample to highlight the differences among national regimes regarding civil status.
The study identified practical difficulties encountered by EU citizens in cross-border situations (i.e. when giving birth abroad, getting married in another EU country, while residing there or visiting it, etc.).
The report also proposed possible solutions, within the EU competence, to improve citizens' lives.
