Thematic INTERREG IVC Capitalisation study - Lot 9 Climate Change
Client: INTERREG IVC JTS
With 204 projects, involving 2357 partners, the INTERREG IVC programme has already tackled a wide range of regional development issues. This represents a unique opportunity for the Programme to make full use of the knowledge generated by its projects, in other words, to ‘capitalise on’ their results and achievements.
With the aim of exploiting this opportunity, the INTERREG IVC programme is undertaking a process of ‘thematic capitalisation’. Thematic capitalisation involves collecting, analysing and disseminating the ‘theme-specific’ knowledge gained from projects regarding the same topic (rather than on the interregional cooperation process).
The policy insights generated will be shared with local and regional authorities all around Europe.
Milieu, in cooperation with REC, carried out a series of capitalisation studies on the theme of climate change. The studies analysed the work of seven INTERREG IVC transnational cooperation projects focused on low carbon economy and adaptation to climate change. The studies provided a synthetic overview of the projects’ results, with a focus on good practices and policy instruments identified by the partners, and the extent to which they have been successfully transferred to other regions or public entities.
The final report identified innovative approaches that support EU and national climate change policy objectives, and could be relevant for other regions in Europe. Theme-specific policy recommendations for the national and EU levels have also been prepared. The report was targeted at decision-makers, INTERREG programme bodies and other stakeholders.
The work also included presentations of preliminary results at the Open Days series of workshops on EU regional policy, and for a workshop for INTERREG project leaders, to present findings and collect their feedback.
