We are also proud to announce the distribution of the Welcome Package prepared by Milieu on the EUs public health policy for the new Members of the European Parliament. The package was distributed to all MEPs on an USB stick which also included similar welcome packages on the EUs environment and feed safety policies prepared by other contractors.
Milieu worked on a report for the EEA assessing the effectiveness of EU cohesion funds, used to reduce the gap between rich and poor regions of the EU – towards achieving environmental goals in areas including biodiversity and renewable energy. Milieu, working with Collingwood Environmental Planning and Ecosphere Lda, carried out an assessment for the European Environment Agency of EU Cohesion spending on environmental protection. The analysis focused on three areas: wastewater treatment, renewable energy and biodiversity protection.. In 2004, the journal International Environmental Agreements (Kluwer) published an article by Tatiana R. Zaharchenko and Gretta Goldenman based on their experiences in working to implement the Aarhus Convention in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus. It describes how a number of long-standing governance traditions of the EECCA countries will need to be changed in order to implement the Aarhus Convention’s provisions on transparency and accountability in environmental governance.

Milieu’s 2003 report for the European Parliament analysed the environment-related consequences of the next EU enlargement. It reviews common problems facing the accession countries in each environmental sector and includes an analysis of each accession country with respect to transposition and implementation of the EU environmental acquis.
