Comparative study on access to justice in gender equality and anti-discrimination law
Milieu has been contracted by DG Employment from the European Commission to undertake a study to provide the Commission with an independent analysis of the situation in the Member States and the EEA countries, as regards access to justice in cases of discrimination on grounds of gender, race or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age and sexual orientation.
A comparison between Member States and the EFTA/EEA countries will be undertaken, and will result in the identification of best practices.
The study also provides an analysis on the effectiveness, proportionality and dissuasiveness of the judicial procedures and of the sanctions in discrimination cases compared with similar procedures and sanctions regarding other types of illegal behaviour in the same areas.
The study covers most Directives and proposals for Directives on gender issues and more generally on anti-discrimination.
The final report and the results will be presented and discussed at a conference attended by representatives of national authorities of each country as well as NGOs and social partners present at EU level.
Technical assistance related to the scope of REACH and other relevant community legislation to assess overlaps
Under this project, Milieu provides policy, legal and technical support to DG Environment of the European Commission regarding the review described in Article 138(6) of REACH requiring to carry a review by 1 June 2012“to assess whether or not to amend the scope of this Regulation to avoid overlaps with other relevant Community provisions”.
This project may result in a proposal for amendments regarding the scope of REACH, or proposals for amendments to the ‘overlapping’ legislation.
This study is a unique occasion to look in details at all the chemicals-related legislation issued or to be issued at the Community level, the scope of the analysis covering an extremely important
Framework Service Contract for expert assistance on integrated environmental assessments, Lot 1.
Milieu is a partner in a consortium to provide services to the European Environment Agency on integrated environmental assessments. The objective of this four year framework contract is to support the framing, development, dissemination and communication of EEA integrated environmental assessments at (pan-) European and regional scales. The consortium will assist EEA in the assessment process, and also support the further development and application of assessment frameworks and communication tools.
Towards the development and dissemination of best practice on sustainable use of biocidal products
Milieu has won the contract to support DG Environment on a review of practices with regards to the use of biocides in the 27 Member States. These practices are either developed either by the competent authorities or by industry. The project aims at identifying best practice for 23 product types in order to ensure the sustainable use of biocides. The project firstly involves the use of a questionnaire survey sent to Member States officials, industry and NGOs, followed by direct contact, in order to establish a comprehensive overview of best practices. Secondly, the project involves the development of possible approaches to promoting best practice at the Community level, through practical, acceptable and relevant means. This will involve a review of experience with the dissemination of best practice under other EU policies.
