Public sector institutions need staff with strong skills and good know-how. Knowledge and skills-sharing is thus a key element of Milieu’s package of expertise. Our experience ranges from carrying out targeted training assessments and designing specialised curricula for classroom teaching, to hands-on support on how to put new knowledge into practice. We provide training across key fields of environmental law, policy and finance, including specific sectors, e.g. waste and water, public participation mechanisms, and investment and project preparation. In addition to training for EU Candidate Countries and neighbours, and for developing countries, Milieu has provided training for staff at EU institutions.
Our experience includes:
Capacity building for environmental approximation, European Commission/ TAIEX, 2005-2009: Milieu carried out detailed training on all sectors of EU environmental legislation for officials of the Environment Protection Department of the Turkish Cypriot community.
Training for new staff joining the European Chemicals Agency, ECHA, 2009: Milieu’s experts delivered an intensive module on classification and labelling of chemicals.
Course on the financial and economic evaluation of EU financed projects, EuropeAid, 2008-2009: Milieu experts carried out training for officials of Iller Bank, a Turkish government development bank, in order to improve capacity for preparation of environmental infrastructure projects proposed for EU financing.
Training on EU environmental law and policy, European Investment Bank, 2002-2004: These courses were specially designed to update the EIB’s Projects Directorate on recent developments in EU environmental law and policy, with a particular emphasis on environmental impact assessment.
Implementation of the Basel Convention in the Asia/Pacific region, Basel Convention Secretariat, 2000-2001: This training workshop in Bangkok was financed by the Danish Government with a view towards improving implementation of the Basel Convention on transboundary shipments of waste in the region.
