Sarine is an environmental policy expert with over five years of experience in the field of maritime policy, renewable energies, eco-innovation and resource efficiency among many other environmental topics.
She has been the deputy project manager of Milieu’s Framework Contract with the European Commission to support the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (Marine Directive) since August 2014. As such, she is coordinating a 9-partner and 50-expert consortium and participating in various tasks under this contract. In 2014-2015, the main task consists of supporting the Commission with its assessment of the Monitoring Programmes of Member States’ reporting for their marine waters. Another core part of her work is providing management support activities to the Commission such as organisational support in official meetings with Member States, taking on the role of rapporteur and the drafting of minutes, preparation of presentations and the development of background papers in relation to the MSFD in close cooperation with DG Environment.
In Milieu, she also contributes to research and analytical reports on a variety of topics such as Maritime Spatial Planning and Integrated Coastal Zone Management, eco-labelling schemes, health etc.
In the past years she has managed multiple complex EU-wide R&D projects on a range of environmental topics. She has been a project manager, as well as Work Package leader for Dissemination and Exploitation activities in four FP7 projects (ECO-SEE, MeeFS, Floatgen and greenXpo).
Sarine is a Greek national. She holds an MSc in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from IIIEE at Lund University and a BSc in Environmental and Public Health from the American University of Beirut.
