Public Health is one of the pillars of the welfare state and therefore must be supported by effective public policies. Several international declarations recognise fundamental rights related to health and in its Charter of Fundamental Rights the European Union recognises the rights of its citizens to public health.
Effective and fair public health systems represent an instrument of social justice and economic prosperity. At EU level, the main public health objectives include: fostering good health in an ageing Europe by promoting healthy consumption habits; protecting citizens from health threats; supporting dynamic health systems and new technologies; and mainstreaming public health in all EU policies.
Milieu provides legal and policy advice by:
- integrating public health concerns into other EU policies, such as Cohesion Policy
