Leonie Reins is a German national with expertise in environmental and energy law. She works for Milieu as a Legal Advisor and holds a PhD and an LL.M. in Energy and Environmental Law and Policy from KU Leuven where she still works as Post Doctoral Researcher.
At Milieu Ltd., she is involved in projects related to energy and climate change law and policy. Leonie has been part of and managed several complex multi-country legal and policy studies on a range of topics, such as unconventional gas, environmental claims, deforestation and energy supply security for the European Institutions. In addition she has carried out and managed conformity checking projects.
Before joining Milieu, Leonie worked as an Academic Assistant at the Department of International and European Law at KU Leuven. She conducted research on various topics related to her field of studies, including unconventional gas activities, balancing environmental protection and energy supply security, energy efficiency, the EU ETS and ecosystem service functions. Prior to arriving in Belgium she was a legal intern at the Environmental Law Center of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Bonn, Germany and was a research assistant at the department of Civil Law, Trade Law and Insurance Law at Leuphana University in Luneburg where also completed her LL.B.
Leonie has published numerous articles on International and European energy, climate change and environmental law and policy in academic journals and presented at international conferences.
