Giuseppe Nastasi is an Italian qualified lawyer and legal advisor at Milieu Ltd. Giuseppe has over five years of professional experience on European Union (EU) environmental, energy and climate laws and policies, as well as in project management.
As legal advisor at Milieu, Giuseppe has worked on numerous projects for EU institutions and non-profit clients on a wide range of topics, notably including energy efficiency, waste, natural resources, industrial emissions, greenhouse gas emissions trading, biodiversity and fundamental rights. In this role, Giuseppe has provided legal advice on Member States’ and private operators’ compliance with EU laws, and has contributed to the policy evaluations and reviews supporting the European Commission’s Regulatory Fitness and Performance Programme (REFIT). As project manager, Giuseppe has managed several complex EU projects, coordinating large multinational teams of in-house and external experts, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality studies.
Prior to joining Milieu, Giuseppe worked in London and in Brussels as a legal advisor for ClientEarth, an environmental law charity. At ClientEarth, Giuseppe helped policy-makers and NGOs design regulatory solutions to promote better uses of forest and agricultural resources whilst reducing greenhouse gas emissions and land-use change impacts. He also advised on State aid and on EU institutional and procedural law, including actions before the Court of Justice of the European Union, public access to information, participation in decision-making, and access to justice in the environmental field.
Giuseppe holds an Honours Degree in Law from the LUISS Guido Carli University of Rome and is a standing contributor to the European Environmental Law Observatory. He has given pro bono legal advice on remedies against Member State breaches of EU waste law to municipalities in Southern Italy.
