Matteo joined Milieu in March 2016 as a Junior Advisor after having completed a traineeship at the European Commission (DG SANTE). His main professional interest lies in the overlaps between law and policy. Specifically, Matteo is intrigued by the role that EU law has in furthering policies of general interest and concern, such as trade, environment, energy, consumer protection and public health. On the latter area, at Milieu, Matteo is currently working on different European projects, framework contracts and studies, on topics such as occupational health and safety, environmental health, infectious and chronic diseases, as well as chemicals.
Matteo holds a JD in Law and an LL.M in EU Law at the College of Europe where his Master’s thesis entitled "The Investor-to-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement (TTIP). Finding a balance between the right to regulate and investment protection" was marked with honours and subsequently published.
Prior to joining Milieu, Matteo worked as a lawyer for the Italian Government Legal Service as well as for different multidisciplinary consultancies where he employed his law and policy skills. In addition, by joining TheGoodLobby, Matteo has acquired experience in advocacy, offering pro bono advice to NGOs. Moreover, Matteo is the founder of a project which aims to create a pan-transatlantic dialogue forum for trainees of the European Commission. Thanks to this experience, he has also gained a strong know-how in communication, organisation, and coordination of high level conferences.
