Regional ocean governance
Regional ocean governance in Europe: the role of fisheries (2016)
Client: European Parliament
The overall objective is to investigate whether the EU should increase its activity in Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) to which it is a member and effectively take a greater role in the ocean governance of relevant water basins. In doing so, the study shall also address the role of regional governance within the framework of international ocean governance.
In order to fulfil the objectives, Milieu will combine various research approaches, namely desk-based research, literature review, mapping, stakeholder interviews and expert collaboration to ensure delivery of a both academically sound and practically applicable Research Study. Additionally, case studies on EU fisheries will be developed to exemplify the implementation of ocean governance within the three water basins and provide again practical application of the theoretical understanding to be gained through the project.
