Water for Citizens
Water for Citizens- Support to commission policy activities on bathing water, drinking water and urban waste water treatment services (2016-2019)
Client: DG Environment
To protect Europe’s water resources is a high priority for the European Union. Since the 1970s, the European Union has adopted a range of legislative and policy measures to protect water from pollution and to reduce risks to human health. Among these, the Bathing Water Directive (BWD), the Drinking Water Directive (DWD) and the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD) are key Directives that contribute to protecting European water resources.
The European Commission (DG Environment) has awarded Milieu Ltd a Framework Contract on “Water for Citizens” to support its work for the implementation of these three directives. Specific projects under this contract are expected to help the European Commission strengthen reporting under the BWD, DWD and UWWT; develop tools for information; carry out technical, impact and socio-economic assessments; provide technical and scientific support to the Member States and to the European Commission; develop guidance documents and assist in the organisation of events.
Milieu leads a partnership of eight companies which includes leading consultancies and research institutes in Europe in the field of EU legislation and water policies, as well as one company specialised in the development of IT solutions/systems for EU environmental reporting and information systems.
