Climate-ADAPT: Dissemination and capacity building supporting adaptation in the framework of the EU Adaptation Strategy (2015-2016)
Client: DG Climate Action
The overall objective of this project was to enhance the uptake of existing knowledge and increase capacity for adaptation policy-making and action in EU policy sectors by facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practice between sectoral stakeholders. To achieve this objective, Milieu worked with stakeholders in four EU sectors to identify their needs in relation to climate change adaptation and develop a strategy for addressing these gaps through the exchange of knowledge and experience. This involved the design and delivery of workshops and webinars tailored specifically to the needs of the stakeholders in each sector, in close collaboration with stakeholder representatives. This project worked with existing ‘communities of practice’ in each sector, to maximise the impact of the project by building on existing networks. The focus of the work was on four sectors: water; agriculture; forestry; and insurance.
Building on the insights learned through the work with sectoral stakeholders, the project also contributed to the development of Climate-ADAPT – the European Climate Adaptation Platform. Specifically, the project:
- Developed sectoral factsheets for the water, agriculture, forestry and insurance sectors for publication on Climate-ADAPT. These factsheets provide sectoral factsheets with an introduction to the state of the art of adaptation knowledge in their sector.
- Delivered recommendations for the improvement of Climate-ADAPT, specifically aimed at enhancing the relevance of the platform to practitioners in the four sectors.
- Provided guidance material for new users of Climate-ADAPT, facilitating their interaction with the platform, with a specific focus on new users of the platform.
