Technical Assistance for capacity building on Marine Strategy Framework Directive in Turkey (2015-2017)
The overall objective of this project is to achieve a good environment status in the marine environment in a sustainable manner aligned with the EU acquis especially the MSFD with regard to coastal and marine areas. This project will serve as a tool for preserving the marine environment in all Turkish seas, providing main principles for a comprehensive approach while dealing with pressures and impacts deteriorating the marine environment.
The purpose of this project is to understand the legal, institutional and technical requirements of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) 2008/56 EC and to provide and to facilitate effective decision making for future next steps of its implementation in Turkey by:
- Developing necessary institutional and technical capacity for the transposition and implementation of the MSFD
- Preparing gap analysis and to produce some recommendations for the coherent coordination among the related institutions, legislations and projects
- Developing methodology regarding the implementation of the Directive and to implement it in the selected regions (Marine waters of Black Sea under Turkish sovereignty and jurisdiction and marine waters of the Mediterranean Sea sovereignty and jurisdiction starting from Mugla (Fethiye) up to Hahtay)
