Support to developing Forward-looking information and services (FLIS) and global megatrends fact sheets / indicators elaboration
The European Environment Agency is developing the Knowledge base for forward-looking information and services (FLIS) as part of the EU’s Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS). FLIS will provide knowledge and data to support long-term decision-making for the environment and sustainable development.
As part of FLIS, EEA is developing a range of products and services that can be used for the integration of forward-looking information into environmental policy making.
This project built on previous work that Milieu and partners had carried out to support the development of FLIS. Milieu Ltd in particular carried out research and analysis of global megatrends related to technology, health and pollution. For technology, specific topics included the development of biotechnology and nanotechnology and their impacts on sectors including agriculture, energy and manufacturing.
On health, Milieu’s work looked at changing global disease burdens as well as the ongoing risks of pandemics. On pollution, Milieu researched pollution and health issues and global trends in the production and use of chemicals.
In addition to supporting FLIS, Milieu’s work under this contract contributes to the analysis of global megatrends that will be presented in EEA’s 2015 report on the state of and outlook for Europe’s environment.
