Conformity checking of measures of Member States to transpose directives in the sector of the environment – 8th call-down
Client: DG ENV
Pursuant to Art. 258 TFUE (ex-Article 226 of the EC Treaty), the Commission must ensure that the Member States fulfil their obligations under the Treaties, and thus check that the EU environmental Directives are fully and correctly transposed in the Member States.
For this eighth call down under the 2008 Framework Contact, held with DG Environment for conformity checking, Milieu analysed the transposition of five Directives in the sector of the environment and covered 10 Member States.
This involved the completion of tables of concordance and the drafting of eleven conformity studies for Directives from different sectors of the environment, including water, waste, and general environmental issues.
The Directives covered by this Study Contract were the Drinking Water Directive (98/83/EC- one study), the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC- one study), the Environmental Liability Directive (2004/35/EC- four studies), the Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC- four studies) and the Environmental Quality Standards Directive (2008/105/EC- one study).
The Commission used these studies as background information in its function to ensure the fulfilment of the Member States’ obligations in accordance with ex-Article 226 of the Treaty.
